ABOUT

Housed in the former Greta Point tavern building that was famously moved to its current site by barge in 12 pieces earlier this century, Foxglove Bar & Kitchen opened June 2010 in the heart of Wellington’s Queens Wharf precinct.

The owners have designed a series of smaller spaces within this large building, bringing a sense of intimacy to the different lounge areas. The three bars within Foxglove have their own unique personalities, adorned with a touch of 1940’s vintage glamour and coupled with sweeping harbour views from every vantage point.

THE BAR

The Lobby Bar on the ground floor is great for a rendezvous of any description, with casual dining and lounge spaces filled with oversized armchairs, couches and high leaners. A large back bar and great coffee add to appeal and the outside weatherproof booths are perfectly located for boat spotting in any weather.

Upstairs to the left is The Games Room filled with green leather tub chairs, plush turquoise armchairs and classy tables. On the bookshelves find board games, vinyl and memorabilia for guests to enjoy. The Games Room is available for private hire.

In the middle of the upstairs the large gleaming expanse of brass bar beckons; shelves cleverly crafted out of copper display piping and glass, home to an impressive selection of spirits, liquers and apperitifs. Turn around and head straight out onto the expansive deck, an assortment of tables and the iconic daybeds await – arrive early in summer to avoid disappointment – a popular spot for lunch or after-work cocktails.

Back inside, behind the living wall is the Sitting Room, a cosy space with an open fireplace, overstuffed couches & ottomans and hot pink velour swivel chairs. Also the location of the secret wardrobe...

Through the wardrobe to Narnia, or what is officially Foxtail Champagne & Cocktail Bar where guests can enjoy smoked old fashioneds, martinis anyway you like and an extensive cocktail list, only available in this part of the building. The expanse of cupboards that line the walls house hundreds of spirits including one of the biggest whisky collections in Wellington – not sure which to have? Try a whisky flight. Foxtail can also be hired for private functions.

The restaurant

The Foxglove dining room, located on the ground floor, boasts sweeping views of the harbour and the Day’s Bay ferry on its journey to and from the seaside suburb of Eastborne. A gorgeous fireplace makes this light, spacious, yet intimate room an enjoyable spot to dine even in winter. Seating a total of 40 guests and a further 14 at the beautiful banquet table, hidden behind the impressive two storey living wall.

The restaurant serves a delicious assortment of entrées, mains and desserts. Seasonal and locally sourced, then given the Foxglove touch to make a 3-course dinner or lunch extra special. Alternatively a more relaxed menu of tapas style grazing plates, gourmet burgers and sharing boards are available at all the bars.

For larger dining groups of up to 34 people, the Games Room upstairs can be booked on our restaurant set menu.
